Sunday Bermuda Greens and Golf Course Improvement Progress

Dear Beacon Ridge Members and Neighbors,

We have completed two more major milestones in our program to return Beacon Ridge Country Club to one of the best courses in the greater Sandhills area.

On July 10, sprigging of the back nine with Sunday Bermuda was successfully completed, two weeks ahead of our original schedule.  We accelerated the project schedule so we could take advantage of prime growing weather and ensure that all 18 holes would have strong greens before Labor Day.  The Sunday Bermuda is growing in even more quickly than the front nine did.  If the hot weather continues, we hope to open the back nine for play by mid August.

On July 15, Sand Scapes from Manasquan New Jersey started sifting rocks out of the bunkers.  They completed all but one bunker on July 23 before they had to leave.  The bunker on 17 (out of the 56 that we have) was simply too wet get the equipment to work properly.  Superintendent Mike Rose and his team are continuing to create ideas and plans for bunker improvements.

As you know, we have previously completed the renovation of the front nine greens (if you haven’t had an opportunity to play them, please come out and see for yourself the excellent putting surfaces we now have) as well having installed a new roof on the clubhouse/restaurant.  Additional projects for later this summer through early winter will include aeration of the tees and fairways (which hasn’t been done in many years).  Superintendent Mike will also be repairing and refurbishing our cart paths.  All of this on top of the day to day maintenance that the course needs such as mowing, weed treatment, fertilizing, irrigation repairs, equipment repairs and so on.

Finally, we are continuing to seek opportunities to provide a high quality food and beverage service out of the restaurant.  We hope to be making an important and exciting announcement within the next few weeks.
